The Holocaust in Polish cinema

Andrzej Wajda

From its inception, the centre has organized many meetings with professors, lecturers, diplomats, authors and representatives of NGO’s. A unique event was the showing of films connected to the Holocaust and the accompanying lecture by Andrzej Wajda, organized on the 12th March 2008 to mark the 65th anniversary of the liquidation of the Krakow ghetto. The meeting brought together a host of students and adults in Przegorzały Castle who were determined to discuss matters with the master of Polish cinema. Andrzej Wajda answered questions about the difficulties and dilemmas he faced when shooting his films and also how differently his films have been received, for example Dr Korczak in France.
